UF Health Shands Hospital is a bed facility that is the tertiary referral center for north central Florida and southern Georgia. To train clinically excellent, broadly trained general surgeons for the state of Florida, with the academic skills to either obtain a faculty position in academic medicine or highly competitive fellowship training after completion of our program.
Clinical Postgraduate Years 1 and 2. The educational experiences in the senior years are designed to deepen the understanding and skills in all areas of General Surgery and Surgical Oncology, in addition to comprehensive exposure in Endoscopy, Transplantation Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Vascular-, Pediatric, and Trauma- and Acute Care Surgery. To train surgeons to meet the needs and challenges of an ever changing healthcare environment, we have incorporated a unique value-added year of post-graduate training into our program design.

Past graduates have obtained fellowship training in transplantation, surgical oncology, minimally invasive surgery, colon and rectal surgery, plastic surgery, and vascular surgery. The program exposes you to the rapidly expanding body of literature surrounding surgical care and simulation.
