Windows xp boots up then freezes

While holding down Shift on your keyboard, click Restart and then release Shift. In Windows 8. The See more recovery options link is below the other tiles you see on the screen. When the computer reboots and the Startup Settings menu appears, press 4 for Safe Mode.

When the Task Manager opens click More details in the lower left corner, and then in the larger Task Manager window click the Startup tab. Note which ones are enabled so that you can return to the original configuration if need be. Then single-click each enabled program and select Disabled in the lower-right corner.

If your initial problem has gone away, bring up the Startup tab again in Task Manager and experiment. Enable and disable autoloaders, and reboot, until you find the culprit.

You can use the host RC1. I am not doing anything with guest folders. There are no errors reported in the event logs of both the host and XP vm.

If you "Disable Integration features" and operate it in same way do you observe it? I disabled everything on the Integration Features setting page and it had no effect. Still freezes. Everything vince has writtten applies to me too. I will check the CPU usage anyway though it probably isn't the cause. The host is running fine. One thing I noted is that the XP VM still takes input during the freezes both from mouse and keyboard.

For example, if I open notepad and start typing and continue typing during the freeze, everything I typed during the freeze will come all at once when it unfreezes.

I am also having the exact same problem specified in this thread! Virtual xp mode freezes constantly. Running Windows 7 x64 and Virtual xp x My Virtual xp has 1gb of ram. My system has 4gb ram total, and running a intel q processor. Wish I could get this xp mode running properly! I have 4gb ram and Q as superlink. I'm testing all the settings now. I'll get back with a report. Please keep us updated JimmyHo. I will give it a try, and let you know! Well I gave it a shot, changing the network setting seems to have stopped the freezing.

But, when I set it to my adapters real name I have no internet connection. I've decided to just turn the internet connection off. I'm not going to use virtual xp to access the net anyway. I just want to use it to install a couple of softwares on that won't work in Windows 7!

Thanks for the help. However, I still suspect the motherboard since it is freezing earlier than ever, even before Windows boots. I think the mother board problems may have caused the Windows system file corruption, if that is possible, but still trying to fix the boot up problem. I tried using the default bios settings and that helped a lot, even clearing up the Windows system error, but still have the cursor freeze about minutes after boot up.

What directory do you run it from? I realized I do have a problem with the new GB drive slave not getting fully recognized, so I guess this motherboard only support up to GBs like my old Gateway. I will try creating logical drives, or finding a cheap adapter card like I did for the Gateway, but freeze started before this drive was added. Looking forward to more production and less maintenance.

Regarding these freezing XP PCs, I am just wondering when is the best time to decide it is time to "punt" and either get rid of a PC or upgrade from the motherboard on up? There doesn't seem to be a definitive way to determine the motherboard problem until you have exhausted every other possibility. VirtualCowboy hi, to answer your last question, it depends on a few factors. Cost, What are your needs, business, gaming, downloading music, hobby. From all I have read you have practically replaced your entire system less the Mobo.

If you replace your mobo you will have to do a new install and you will never know what your real problem is on your current system. You might get a message about having to restart your system "DO IT".

You will get a message to restart "DO IT" post back your results:.
