Windows xp ssd trim samsung
Apparently the author of the program was a user on the Crucial SSD Forum, which now ceases to exist as a forum. Just like the previous tool, in fact on a greater scale, this tool also felt I know, TRIMing under Windows 10 feels about the same way, but at least under 10 when you "optimize" your drive and you see the percentage of the drive currently TRIMed, you feel like it did something.
No such feeling. I'd say with both of these SSD tools, there is no way that I know of to measure whether or not they did their job or not. If there is some way I can verify that they actually work, especially compared to Windows 10's TRIM functionality, then I'd be willing to test them and do a comparison. I think, though, that these tools must do something , so I'll run these tools once in a while, and then once in a blue-moon a few months I'll pop the drives out of the machine and throw it into my old craptop to let Windows 10 "officially" TRIM it.
Can't hurt, right? Any who, I'd be happy to find more alternatives to these two pieces of software. Maybe something with a bigger name behind it might hold more weight. You say you're using a Pentium 4. Yes, there are combinations of southbridges and P4 chips which support AHCI, but is this something you have?
You actually don't. Since we are talking about XP here, Win7's behavior is irrelevant. The manufacturer toolbox if available should manually send TRIM just fine. Topic actions. Joined , Rank Oldbie. Posts Next, install the OS. Is this correct?
Maybe I am wrong here, but it seems that Over Provisioning certainly improves performance. However I am wondering if Over Provisioning helps improve the life of the drive , by wear leveling or some other mechanism?
Thank you again, O. I'm not understanding. It's damn near full and I have been installing stuff on the platter instead. I can't remember the amount of space I have left, but i'm thinking of leaving it as is for OP. I think the space is around 15 GB. So let me get this straight. You don't have to use software for OP? I can just leave the unused space as is? I'm on my laptop right now and when I get on my desktop I'll update.
Last edited: Aug 3, Thank you very much Cerb for that detailed explanation. You seem to really know a lot. I am sorry for the delay in responding. I always thought that writes and erases operated on the same sized memory, so I did not understand how OP reduced WA. But this is wrong. Writes always operate on pages which are 4KB, whereas erases occur on blocks which are KB. Thanks again Cerb. Last edited: Aug 4, Thank you for the detailed information Cerb.
I think that would be sufficient for me, since this Win XP machine would not be a server or something like that. Jul 23, 14 It is possible that when you used the repair disk you somehow managed to attempt creating a 7 bootable disk, AFAICR the diskpart in WinPE which is what the "repair disk" runs works "normally".
Don't use a repair disk. At your leisure. And yet another way would be re-aligning XP after installation, with something like Paragon Alignment Tool. At the beginning of setup, before you select the location where you want to install Windows:.
And still Diskpart works nicely from the windows 7 setup disk as I and the article you referenced tried to tell you. I used a command prompt to access Diskpart from the Windows 7 repair disc and it created the additional small partition; I used Diskpart from the Vista Recovery Disc and it created no such partition. I doubt I will be ever able to "convince" you about the meaning of that article, however these may help:.

I am looking at the drive, and would like to run XP on it. Will it setup XP to shutdown all unnecessary operations? Coup27 Platinum Member. Jul 17, 2, 3 I haven't ran Magician on XP myself but I will be this weekend if you want to wait for personal confirmation.
It does state in the manual XP is supported so I would expect and assume it would work, both the program and the TRIM function within the program.
